With Two Birds Brewing and Best’s Great Western, we will showcase dishes from the 1860s, using indigenous, locally sourced ingredients, as well as beer and wine with links to the past.
The Plough Hotel was established in 1868 and was a popular meeting place for local traders and producers from the Western region of Victoria.
We have had a look back to those times to think about what the townsfolk would have eaten and drank at The Plough more than a century ago.
In collaboration with Two Birds Brewing (Spotswood) and Bests Winery (est. 1866) we will serve a three-course lunch showcasing dishes from the 1860s, using indigenous, locally sourced ingredients, as well as a beer (harking back to the brewing techniques of the last century) and a wine (from Bests’ Nursery Block, planted 1866!) both of which have historical links to the past. We will serve this side by side with what each business has become known for today, with the brewer and winemaker on hand to answer any curly, history-related questions.
